Jump Start is a subsidized fellowship for people interested in working in the community (public) mental health field.  The fellowship is open to and priority is given to graduates with a Bachelor's degree in any field, people who have lived mental health experiences and/or are family members are given priority. Those with 24 college credits are also eligible to apply. 

Participants are trained in the classroom and gain firsthand experience during an assigned internship.  The fellowship provides both philosophical and skills-based training for people looking to enter the mental health field who may not have previous experience.

Jump Start is a workforce development project of MHALA and is funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Classes are currently held at the MHA Village in Long Beach. Internship placements are provided at mental health agencies throught Los Angeles County.
