MHA Recovery Oriented Practice Immersion Training is a 2-day training consisting of workshops  and activities designed to immerse participants in the principles and practice of recovery focused service delivery; based on the stages of recovery of hope, empowerment, self responsibility and meaningful roles as well as the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation.

Workshop topics include:

  • developing hope in those we serve and ourselves
  • creating opportunities for people to find their strengths
  • building the recovery relationship
  • principle guided decision making
  • taking responsibility and taking charge of one's life
  • the role of culture in recovery
  • helping people find roles that give them meaning and purpose

Training Environment

The training is conducted at the MHA Training Center located at the Village in Downtown Long Beach, California; and is scheduled from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Tuesday and Wednesday or Wednesday and Thursday depending upon scheduling availability.

Who should participate in the training?

The training is recommended for staff at multiple levels.  In addition to line staff and direct service workers, program leaders who are responsible for program design should especially attend as they can assist system change better when they understand the recovery process.  Line staff can be better recovery workers when they are supported by administrators who have a shared vision.

Participants can be staff, supervisors, administrators, mental health and adult system of care directors, and partners (including faith based organizations, housing providers and law enforcement).
